am toying the idea of doing a project on "locus of control of reinforcement" and perhaps forming a hypothesis to explore this personalilty variable in workplace... but till now i do not have an idea on how to weave a nice hypothesis...
I found one research... where it tried to find a correlaion between "locus of control of reinforcement" (one form of personality variables) and procrastination... very interesting findings!
it was found that students who like to procrastinate (like delaying to do their assignments, revisions, etc) have personality that have high "external control" - that is, these students usually will attribute successes that they had (eg passing of exams, good grades for assignments) to external factors which they cannot control, like luck, fate, chance, etc... But for students whose personality showed high internal control (will link success to ownself's ability) usually won't procrastinate as much as others.
perhaps that's becos, if u feel that u are capable to do the assignment and will get good results, most likely you will be motivated to start and do the assignment and not procrastinate. But for people who are not able to convince themselves that they are capable to do the assignment and perhaps they will think that even if they did the assignment and get good results, it might be all due to luck/chance/fate and becos they are capable... thus these people will procrastinate and will not start working on the assignment immediately.

I find such studies very interesting.... there's also one study that link internal-external locus of control to their ethical behaviour....
that is, if employees have high internal locus of control, meaning that they believe that they are capable to decide what is right and appropriate. But for those employees will high external locus of control personality, they will usually look to others to decide what is the right behavior...

hmmmm.... i need to think of a research to test if there's a link between locus of control and XXX? I need to think of wat "XXX" is.... i was thinking... when a colleague got promoted, usually there will be alot of sayings... like "he got promoted cos the boss like him", "he got promoted cos he did a good job", "i donno how he can ever get promoted?! he is totally incompetent!", etc...
perhaps, if a person had internal locus of control, he might view a promotion as that person doing well for his job. but if someone had external locus of control,he might think the promotion might be by chance or luck?
sound stupid.... *abort the idea*
